Tips to help you prepare for an interview for a household staff job

Research the position and the household:
Learn as much as you can about the position and the household you will be working for. This will help you tailor your answers to the specific needs of the employer. Review your resume:
Make sure they are up-to-date and highlight your relevant experience and qualifications. We will go through your CV with you and ensure your experience and ability is clear for the employer to see. We will put an up to date photo of you on the CV, you should look professional and presentable but also have a smile.
Prepare answers to common interview questions:
Anticipate common questions that may be asked in the interview, such as why you want to work in a household staff position, and practice your answers. Write things down if needed to help prompt you, especially if you have any questions you would like to ask. Be honest and authentic, the interviewer wants to get to know you and your personality.
Practise good body language:
Maintain good eye contact, sit up straight, and smile. These are all signs of confidence and help to create a positive impression.
Dress appropriately:
Dress professionally and in a manner appropriate for the position and the household. A majority of first interviews tend to be conducted via video link or WhatsApp but don’t be complacent, do ensure you look professional. Make sure you will not be interrupted during the interview, make sure you are somewhere quiet so you can hear the employer and they can also hear you. Second interviews then tend to be face-to-face interviews or potential trials. Be punctual and courteous:
Arrive at the interview on time and be respectful and courteous to the interviewer and any other household staff you may meet during the interview. It is always better to be early and research the location before so you know exactly where to go.
Be ready to answer some technical questions and provide references:
Be ready to answer questions about your experience, skills, and qualifications. Also, be ready to provide references from previous employers if asked. We will be happy to provide the reference details to potential employers to assist you with this.
Have a positive attitude and show enthusiasm:
Show enthusiasm for the position and the household, and have a positive attitude throughout the interview. Ask questions if needed about the position and the family you would be working for. We understand an interview can be a nerve racking experience but remember the employer has already seen your CV and based on this have decided to find out more about you.
What happens after the interview:
Please give us a call to go through the interview and let us know how it went. We will ask you how you feel and if you are interested in the position and go through the interview with you. We will then contact the client. As soon as we are hear back from the client regarding the role we will notify you and advise of any next steps.
Overall, the key to a successful interview is to be prepared, be yourself and have a good attitude. Remember, that you are being evaluated on your qualifications, skills, and personality and how you might fit into the household.
