Tips to help you prepare for an interview for a
household staff job

We understand that an interview can be stressful, but it’s important to stay calm. At MASSEYS AGENCY, we’ll do everything to make sure you are ready.

Research the position and the household:

Learn as much as you can about the position and household. Tailor your answers to the employer’s needs. We’ll brief you on the position and give full details on the household. Think of valuable questions, this shows genuine interest.

Review your resume:

Make sure your resume is up-to-date, highlighting your experience and qualifications. We will review your CV with you and ensure your experience is clear. We will include a recent photo, looking professional and presentable with a smile.

Prepare answers to common interview questions:

Anticipate common questions, such as why you want the household staff position, and practice your answers. Write down prompts if needed. Be honest and authentic; the interviewer wants to get to know you.

Practise good body language:

Maintain eye contact, sit up straight, and smile. These signs of confidence create a positive impression.

Dress appropriately:

Dress professionally for the position and household. First interviews are often via video link or WhatsApp, but present yourself well. Pick a quiet environment, and avoid interruptions. Second interviews may be face-to-face or trials, and we will assist with the arrangements.

Be punctual and courteous:

Arrive on time and be respectful to the interviewer and household staff. It's better to be early and know the location beforehand.

Be ready to answer some technical questions and provide references:

Be prepared to discuss your experience, skills, and qualifications. Have references ready. We are happy to provide reference details to potential employers.

Have a positive attitude and show enthusiasm:

Show enthusiasm and a positive attitude throughout the interview. Ask questions about the position and family. Remember, the employer has seen your CV and wants to know more about you.

What happens after the interview:

Call us to discuss the interview. We’ll talk about how it went, whether you’re interested, and then contact the client. We will notify you of any next steps once we hear back from the client.

The key to a successful interview is to be prepared, be yourself, and have a good attitude. You’re being evaluated on your qualifications, skills, and personality.
