Working Pattern
• Five days per week. 40 hours a week
• Days off will be a mixture of weekdays and weekends, arranged in advance to suit the household's requirements.
• Flexibility is essential.
Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced, professional and adaptable Cook/Housekeeper to manage the day-to-day running of a private household. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining high housekeeping standards, preparing meals, assisting with entertaining, and providing additional support when the principal is away. He has a small friendly dog that you will need to help care for.
Key Responsibilities
Housekeeping
• Daily cleaning and presentation of the downstairs areas, including:
o Kitchen
o Breakfast room
o Hall
o Study
• Regular cleaning of all bedrooms and bathrooms.
• Daily cleaning and presentation of the master bedroom and en-suite bathroom.
• Prepare guest bedrooms and bathrooms before arrivals.
• Launder, iron and change bed linen and towels after guest departures.
• Evening preparation of the house, including:
o Drawing curtains
o Turning down beds
o Preparing the kitchen and reception rooms for the evening
• Maintain exceptionally high standards of cleanliness and presentation throughout the property.
• Report any maintenance issues or repairs promptly to the employer.
Cooking & Household Support
• Plan menus in consultation with the employer.
• Carry out the weekly food shop and assist with additional household shopping as required.
• Prepare, serve and clear away breakfast, lunch and supper for the employer.
Guest & Seasonal Support
The employer has two small shoot parties a year for friends only [not commercial]
• Help prepare the house for guests.
• Prepare food and drinks during lunches and dinners.
• Support with clearing tables and washing up.
• Carry out additional housekeeping duties including making guest beds, laundry and ironing.
• Maintain flexibility to accommodate overnight guests and changing schedules.
• Be willing to reside in the main house to provide 24-hour property oversight and security when the principal is away [usually for a maximum for just one week]
Personal Qualities
The ideal candidate will:
• Have previous experience in a private household.
• Be a confident cook able to prepare fresh daily meals mainly for one person, occasionally for family guests too.
• Take pride in maintaining a beautifully presented home.
• Be organised, discreet and trustworthy.
• Be flexible and willing to adapt to the changing needs of the household.
• Enjoy working as part of a small household team.
• Hold a full UK driving licence (preferred).
